Breasts can become saggy for various reasons. The ligaments holding the breast tissue in place may loosen over time. There may be a mismatch between the breast tissue and the surrounding skin envelope due to weight changes, breastfeeding and the effect of gravity. The problem may belong to the breast tissue, the skin or both. The result can be a saggy breast that looks almost hollow.

Before surgery

As with other breast surgeries, discuss with your doctor why you want to have the surgery and what you expect from it. Tell your doctor if you have a family history of breast disease or cancer, smoking, drug habits or systemic diseases. Ask your doctor about the type of surgery and possible problems.

Surgery

In aesthetic breast lift surgery, sagging breast tissue is reshaped and excess skin is removed. The nipple is brought to where it should be. The operation is performed under general anesthesia in the operating room under hospital conditions. It takes 1.5-2 hours. Depending on the degree of sagging, scars are left in different ways. No matter which method is applied, scarring around the nipple is inevitable. If a breast lift surgery is performed by making an incision around the nipple, the scar around the nipple may be more prominent. In other breast lift surgeries, in addition to the scar around the nipple, there may be a 4-5 cm long scar extending downward from the middle part of the lower edge of the nipple. In suitable patients, sagging can be eliminated by placing only breast prosthesis. In this case, the scar is hidden only at the junction of the brownish skin of the nipple and the white skin of the breast and is minimal. There is no breast lift surgery that leaves no scars. However, these scars are evident at the beginning and become indistinct over time.

After surgery

The postoperative period is usually comfortable. Pain is usually not a problem. If breast prosthesis was used during the operation, there may be limitation in arm movements for a few days. A bra-like dressing is applied over the breasts. A separate dressing is placed on the nipple. The dressing is opened after 2 days and the wound is checked. After 7 days, the dressing is opened. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days. The patient wears a sports bra for 6 weeks and massage is recommended. In the early period, there may be swelling, numbness in the nipple and purplish discoloration on the skin. These disappear spontaneously in a short time.

Return to normal life

The patient can return to work in 3-4 days. It is recommended to stay away from heavy sports for 3 months. Aesthetic breast lift surgery is an operation that generally gives good and lasting results, improves the mental health of the person and his/her partner and makes them more committed to life. The newly shaped breast is durable for a long time, but weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity can cause new sagging.
