Breast Repair After Cancer

Success in the treatment of breast cancer is increasing with each passing day, which leads to the search for quality of life beyond survival.

The loss of this organ, which is the symbol of femininity and motherhood, can also cause psychological problems, so as the level of culture increases and patients become more aware, the demand for breast repair naturally increases.

Breast reconstruction can be performed in the same session with cancer surgery or after the treatment is completed. Silicone implants (prostheses filled with saline or silicone used in breast augmentation surgeries) can be used with or without prior balloon expansion.

Another method is to repair the breast by transferring the patient's own tissue from another area. There are several options for this: Skin and underlying fatty tissue can be transferred from the abdomen, back or buttocks. In this method, the excess abdominal skin and the fatty tissue underneath are used to make the breast, and a natural breast structure of the desired size is obtained while the tummy tuck is performed. Approximately six months after this procedure, the nipple is removed with a small operation and the other breast is lifted if necessary.

Breast repair is an intervention that makes patients feel whole and more at peace with their bodies.
